Drawings
During sophomore art class in high school, my teacher John Dorsey placed a wild-looking fern on a stool at the front of the room and instructed the class to draw what we were looking at. I thought my fern drawing was a scribbled mess that I was about to throw in the trash, but Mr. Dorsey enthusiastically told me otherwise—that it was a good drawing, “don’t throw it out”.
That moment made all the difference, and I have had the confidence to keep drawing since then. Thank you to art teachers.
